Vote Liberal Democrats on 1st May 2008

Vote Liberal Democrats on 1 May 2008Dear Friends,

I am sure you agree with me that it's time for change.

I have spoken to many people across the community in recent weeks. Everyone without exception has expressed that they are unhappy with Mr Ken Livingstone, his entourage of advisers and his publicity team.

Ken Livingston has been in power too long. He has lost control of finances and our money has been wasted without respect to rising costs of living.

London Underground System is in a mess. It is badly managed and has led to the collapse of Metro-net costing us millions. The underground users face constant delays and over crowding despite substantial increases in costs of travel. The transport links between outer London town centres are non-existent.

The buses do not come on time and then several arrive at the same time making passengers wait a long time. The introduction of dangerous and costly bendy buses without consideration to their suitability has led to dangers for other road users and pedestrian.

Mayor's policies have led to increase in taxes on Londoners well above the cost of living. For the last four years every household in our borough has paid more than £1,200 and has gained nothing. Ken Livingston's policies only cater the needs of inner London Boroughs. Outer London Borough's have been left out.

London Development Agency has failed to invest in Outer London Borough's resulting in net job transfer to Central London at the expense of us who live outside the Central Zone. These policies must change to avoid permanent damage to our local economy and local job prospects.

Mayor's housing policy has led to development of high-rise flat complexes at the expense of our green and open spaces and local car parks. Even our allotments are now under threat. There are plenty of empty homes in London, which can be refurbished to provide affordable accommodation for the key workers like Nurses, Policemen, and Teachers etc. There is substantial surplus land owned by various government bodies, who can be persuaded to release this land to build new homes.

Ken Livingston has failed to deliver on his promises of cutting crime by 50%. People are afraid to go out alone. The anti-social behaviour is on the rise. A gang mentality has developed in our young people. Gun and Knife crime is out of control. The Gun and Knife crime has cost 27 young lives last year and 11 young people have already died this year. We must stop this senseless loss of life.

Mr Livingston and Labour Party have no solutions to offer

It's time for Change

I am sure you agree with me that it's time for change.

The Tory candidate Boris Johnson has no credible policies and it is not surprising since he has not managed any organisation in his life. All he has been able to come up with are slogans and no substance.

He has never supported London's cause in parliament. His record as a journalist is not some thing to be proud of. His attitude towards minorities has been awful.

Boris Johnson will be a disaster. He is not capable of managing a multicultural and multiethnic London.

The current Tory London Assembly Member for the last eight years has failed to serve the interests of Havering & Redbridge and does not deserve to be re-elected.

Boris Johnson and the Tory's have nothing to offer except slogans.

Tory's are not serious about London.

Liberal Democrats offer a serious solution in Brain Paddick as Mayor.

He has been a Police Officer for thirty years and knows London better than anyone. Brian Paddick and Liberal Democrats have serious solutions for London with policies formulated through consultation and talking to ordinary people.

Liberal Democrats offer Serious Solutions for London

  • We need a greener, more sustainable London, with its strong local communities, street markets and green spaces enhanced.
  • We need a safer London with police you can see and talk to, and hugely improved leisure and training facilities for young people.
  • We need far more affordable rented housing, especially for larger families.
  • We need a more convenient London reducing the need to travel but improving public transport so it is safe, frequent and affordable.
  • We need a fairer London, where good skill training closes the poverty gap and where all Londoners have worthwhile opportunities.

Brian Paddick will tackle gun and knife crime and has pledged to cut crime rate 5% every year. Liberal Democrats are committed to deliver to achieve a better and greener London.

You will receive three ballot papers. Please use them all to elect Liberal Democrats. Your votes are vital to bring the necessary change.

Thank you for your support for a better and greener London.

Yours sincerely,

Farrukh Islam

Liberal Democrats Candidate for Havering & Redbridge

London needs a change and Liberal Democrats can bring that Change
